At Acton Medical Associates, PC, the Collections Assistant is responsible for the coordination of collections activities within the patient accounts department. Collections Assistants work to resolve designated delinquent accounts through letters, calls, meetings and insurance follow-ups with the goal of resolving the patient's balance and rectifying insurance issues.

This position is also responsible for:

  • Identifying accounts for review

  • Working with patients to establish payment plants, follow-up to ensure adherence to the plan

  • Running and reviewing reports to determine accounts to be sent to the collection agency or attorney, per department guidelines

  • Posting incoming checks and credit payments

  • Running credit inquires

  • Researching and refund patient overpayments

  • Other duties as assigned


  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Excellent customer services skills

  • Ability to multi-task, prioritize workload and perform under pressure

  • One plus years of medical collections experience preferred

  • Knowledge of laws regarding collections, preferred

  • Knowledge of small claims court filing procedures, preferred
